For the past two years, the Waterfront Historic Area League (WHALE) and the Trust for Public Land have collaborated on an innovative project called Places that Matter: New Bedford.
From 2022 – 2024, New Bedford locals identified the historic and cultural resources, parks and recreation areas, public art and affordable housing opportunities that deserve protection, activation and celebration in the city. The end result is a “greenprint”, an online mapping tool that anyone can use for their own work right here in New Bedford. This is only the second “greenprint” of its kind in the entire country.
We are excited to celebrate Places that Matter: New Bedford and WHALE’s return to AHA! Night on Thursday, May 9!
We invite you to join us as we formally introduce Places that Matter t o the public with a little “press conference” and live demonstration of the resources and tools. Laptops will be available for people to try their hand at using Places that Matter for themselves and TPL and WHALE staff will be available for questions.
The event will be at the National Park Service Visitor Center Auditorium at 33 William Street, New Bedford at 5:30 PM. This is free as part of AHA! night.
