Erin D.A. Miranda, Executive Director

Erin Miranda joined the Waterfront Historic Area League, Inc. in New Bedford as Executive Director in August 2023. She brings over twenty years of non-profit administration, programming and preservation expertise to WHALE and its work across New Bedford. Central to WHALE’s mission as a non-profit and Community Development Corporation is the rehabilitation and revitalization of historic buildings. Together with the board of directors, Erin leads project initiatives to help utilize the city’s incredible historic resources to meet community needs, such as housing. She also manages educational programming, advocacy initiatives and provides technical preservation services to businesses and organizations restoring their own historic restorations. Erin recently oversaw the creation and implementation of WHALE’s latest strategic plan and is focused on expanding partnerships, collaborative opportunities and raising the bar for community led investment in New Bedford’s historic resources.

Prior to WHALE she worked with Preservation Massachusetts, building program, advocating for state and federal preservation policy and creating educational and connection opportunities for preservationists across Massachusetts. Erin has served on the Board of Directors of the National Preservation Partners Network, Preservation Action and holds a degree in Historic Preservation from Roger Williams University.  She is a lifelong resident of the South Coast where her family has ties to New Bedford and its rich history.

Diane Brodeur, General Manager,

has been a key force in the WHALE office since February 2005 handling the membership database, financials, event coordination, volunteers, and day to day operations.  Diane led our major signature fundraising event, the Annual International Wine Festival & Auction.  It attracted over 500 per year and was considered one of the biggest wine festivals within our region.

Felicity Shakarji, Development & Communication Coordinator

Felicity Shakarji joined the Waterfront Historic Area League (WHALE) in 2025 as Development and Communications Coordinator. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations with a minor in Integrated Communications from Bridgewater State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

At WHALE, Felicity manages fundraising initiatives, donor engagement, and communications strategies that support the organization’s preservation mission. Her work includes crafting press releases, maintaining WHALE’s digital presence, producing e-newsletters, and developing social media campaigns. She also assists with grants, membership outreach, and special events such as tours and community programs.

A native of Somerset, Felicity brings a passion for community-based storytelling and public engagement, helping connect residents and visitors alike to New Bedford’s vibrant historic and cultural assets.
