WHALE is excited to bring back our Preservation Awards this year! Traditionally given out at our annual meeting, the awards recognize, honor and celebrate individuals and organizations that have demonstrated excellence, commitment and dedication to the history, culture, and architectural heritage of New Bedford.
The 2024 Preservation Award Recipients are:
John & Laurie Bullard – The Sarah R. Delano Award – for the memoir “Hometown”
Lee Blake & the New Bedford Historical Society – The Catherine Crapo Bullard Award – for the creation of Abolition Row Park and the Frederick Douglass statue
Dennis & Tracey Berrios – The Christopher “Chip”Gillespie Award – for the restoration and stewardship of 36 Maple Street
CMK Development Partners – The Christopher “Chip”Gillespie Award – for the restoration and adaptive reuse of the Holy Family Holy Name High School into 121 North Apartments
Michel Jodoin & John Mason -The Christopher “Chip”Gillespie Award – for the restoration and stewardship of 416 County Street
Laura Parish -The Christopher “Chip”Gillespie Award – for the restoration and stewardship of the “Whalhouse” at 100 Madison Street
Bruce Barnes – The Carol Ann Juneau Volunteer Award – for his educational and inspiring historical walking tours of New Bedford
