William A. Burns, a New Bedford native and Chief of Staff for former Mayor Scott W. Lang, has been elected to WHALE’s Board of Directors. Bill brings to WHALE a deep love for his native city, a passion for the city’s history and architecture, and strong connections throughout the city and the Commonwealth. Prior to joining City government, Burns was the longtime Chief of Staff to State Senator Mark Montigney. Bill has degrees in Marketing and Accounting from Bentley College.
“Bill’s vast experience in local and state government will be enormously helpful to WHALE as we begin our next 50 years,” noted President Mike Murray. “He’s already been tremendously helpful, serving on the Strategic Plan Committee and helping with the properties we’re working to preserve and with our 2013 Wine Festival planning. WHALE is so fortunate to have Bill on our team.”
“I am proud to serve an organization, which for the past 50 years has led the efforts in historic preservation in New Bedford,” Burns said. “I look forward to working with the very talented and dedicated board of directors and staff to ensure that our history is preserved for future generations.”
Recently, two longtime members retired from WHALE’s Board. They were former Treasurer, Matthew Insana and Anne Fenton. Both have recently taken jobs which take them away from New Bedford and make their participation impossible.
