Working together to Preserve the Past • Build the Future
Executive Director Erin D.A. Miranda,
Erin Miranda joined the Waterfront Historic Area League, Inc. in New Bedford as Executive Director in August 2023. She brings over twenty years of non-profit administration, programming and preservation expertise to WHALE and its work across New Bedford. Central to WHALE’s mission as a non-profit and Community Development Corporation is the rehabilitation and revitalization of historic buildings. Together with the board of directors, Erin leads project initiatives to help utilize the city’s incredible historic resources to meet community needs, such as housing. She also manages educational programming, advocacy initiatives and provides technical preservation services to businesses and organizations restoring their own historic restorations. Erin recently oversaw the creation and implementation of WHALE’s latest strategic plan and is focused on expanding partnerships, collaborative opportunities and raising the bar for community led investment in New Bedford’s historic resources.
From 2004 through 2023 she worked with Preservation Massachusetts, most recently as President and Executive Director. There she built program, advocated for state and federal preservation policy and help create educational and connection opportunities for preservationists across Massachusetts. Erin has served on the Board of Directors of the National Preservation Partners Network, Preservation Action and holds a degree in Historic Preservation from Roger Williams University. She is a lifelong resident of the South Coast where her family has ties to New Bedford and its rich history.
