SouthCoast Neighborhood Builders – Introduction to Incremental Development

WHALE is partnering with SouthCoast Places for People, New Bedford Office of Housing and Community Development and One SouthCoast Chamber for this free introduction to Incremental Development presentation.
If you care about creating more housing, strengthening downtowns, and building more resilient neighborhoods, this event is for you. Learn about how small-scale, locally driven development can help shape stronger communities one project at a time. The featured speaker is Marques King, an experienced architect, planner, and faculty member with the Incremental Development Alliance.

Living the Old House Dream
Join us this fall for Living the Old House Dream, a free series celebrating the owners, stewards, and storytellers behind New Bedford’s older and historic homes. At each gathering, local homeowners share their firsthand experiences—the reasons they fell in love with an old house, the surprises uncovered along the way, the lessons learned navigating restoration and preservation, and what it really takes to live in a home with history.
This fall features three presentations, with more to come in 2027. Whether you’re a longtime owner of a historic property, a first-time old-house buyer, or simply curious about what goes into caring for New Bedford’s architectural heritage, this series offers real talk, practical insight, and a chance to connect with others who share the passion for old homes.
Come for the stories. Stay for the community of fellow old-house lovers.
Presentations will be held at the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park Visitor Center Auditorium. This event is free to attend.

WHALE’s inaugural Holiday House Tour invites you on a self-guided walk through a handful of privately owned historic homes, each dressed in seasonal splendor for the occasion. Along the way, learn about the architecture, history, and character that make these houses — and this city — special.
Proceeds support WHALE’s mission of historic preservation and community revitalization across New Bedford.
