Notice of Public Invitation to Bid: Phase 2 of the CVANB Cultural Center:
The Cape Verdean Association in New Bedford, Inc. (CVANB) aims to strengthen and foster current economic development and exchange relationships between New Bedford and Cabo Verde while providing education, arts, and cultural programs for youth and adults in the North End. In 1992, the CVANB was drawn to the historic Strand Theatre, then boarded and vacant from a fire with a high risk of demolition, for a Cape Verdean Cultural Center, to celebrate the traditional customs and culture of music, theatre, and the arts of Cape Verde. The historic Strand Theater, built in 1910, is a 9,000 SF property that stands as a gateway landmark for New Bedford’s North End. Phase 1 of the rehabilitation was recently completed, with included the reconstruction of the historic façade and interior lobby restoration.
The scope of the Phase II bid pertains to systems upgrades; careful demolition of historic areas in the west basement area, modification of old window wells, gutting the west basement and installation of a new slab, perforated drainage and sump pump in a portion of the basement, reconstruction of a stair to the basement, installation replacement of an old fire suppression service, removal/abatement of an old new fire suppression line, boiler and associated piping, equipment, and oil tanks, historic stone foundation wall repair removal/abatement and main equipment, a fly loft roof access repair and membrane roof flashing repair. and heating system repair.
