WHALE is excited to introduce our 2025 Preservation Award recipients! Traditionally given out at our annual meeting, the awards recognize, honor and celebrate individuals and organizations that have demonstrated excellence, commitment and dedication to the history, culture, and architectural heritage of New Bedford.
The 2025 Preservation Award Recipients are:
Christopher “Chip”Gillespie Revitalization Award – Given in honor of Chip’s memory to those who share his passion for saving and reusing historic buildings. Chip was a longtime board member and served as president.
Kathleen Horan & Michael McClean, Horan McClean Law Office – for the transformation and stewardship of 17 Orchard Street
Jenessa Gerard & Danielle Poullin, Pateakos & Poulin, P.C. – for the restoration and stewardship of 324 Union Street
George C. Perkins President’s Award- Awarded to an individual or organization whose contributions have made a positive impact on the quality of life in Greater New Bedford. George C. Perkins is one of the founders of WHALE and served as our first president.
Eric Johnson, founder of the New Bedford Historic Photo Club – for using social media and connections to “crowdsource” history and encourage the sharing and preservation of memories and important stories.
Charles A. Hauck – for his dedication and commitment to preservation and ensuring New Bedford’s historic buildings endure for future generations.
Sarah R. Delano Preservation Award – Awarded to individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the rehabilitation, restoration and interpretation of the historic character and environment of Greater New Bedford. Sarah Delano served as the second President of WHALE for 16 years and her vision set a high standard for WHALE to follow.
Community Action for Better Housing– for the restoration of Talbot Apartments to its former glory at 1162 Acushnet Avenue.
Special Recognition:
The Rotch-Jones-Duff House Museum & Gardens – for forty years of stewardship, education, storytelling and celebrating community.
The 2025 Preservation Awards will be presented at WHALE’s annual meeting on June 25.
